COMFORTABLE & LIGHT WEIGHT
Reviewer: GINI L. | OBERLIN, OH
I already own the Bates GTX (both 4" & 8") which have been extremely comfortable & functional, right out of the box. Bought the 5" Tactical Sport to have an extra pair of low boots for the warmer months. The quality is good but the removable insert was paper thin...definitely NOT CUSHIONED as the product details stated...and very uncomfortable. I normally use orthotics on top of whatever inserts are provided, but in this case, I had to replace the Bates inserts with a pair of Dr. Scholl's cushioned. Luckily I have a collection of various types of inserts & orthotics, so I had plenty of choices, but it took me a while to test several different combinations before finding just the right one. Now, after a short break-in period, my feet are happy again. But this was so different from my experience with the other Bates boots, where all I had to do was drop in a heel lift and go, with no break-in period. I've given these 4-stars because I think they're going to out, but I still have to wear them a bit more to be sure.
Bates 5: Tactical Sport Boot

Delivery was on time. The boot quality seems high; however, they are very narrow. I ordered what I thought was a standard medium.

I work in corrections and need something comfortable on my feet. My husband, whom also works in corrections, suggested these boots. I`m going to order another pair! My feet are not tired at the end of the day, weather it`s an 8 hour shift or a 16 hour shift.

I LOVE this boot! I have problems with plantar facitis and very weak ankles. I just started a job as a corrections officer and these boots felt great the first time I put them on. I have walked 2 miles in one day in them with no discomfort. And they look great! I don't know what I'll do if you guys stop making them because when I need a new pair, these will be what I want. Thanks so much for making something stressful a bit easier for me!
comfortable boot, but better with leather
Reviewer: Anon | Cleveland, OH
This was my first Bates purchase. It is definitely a comfortable boot. I've have a hard time finding a boot with this type of comfort level. Good for long durations of walking/standing. I'm not impressed with the leather. The leather seems cheap. The crease marks in the leather (mid foot from walking) are more noticeable than any other leather boot/shoe I've owned.

It all started with men's dress shoes. In 1885 Bates Shoe Company was just a tiny dress footwear manufacturer. More than seven decades later, the company narrowed its focus to create a uniform dress shoe specifically for the U.S. Navy. From there, its uniform footwear line exploded onto the market. With 1.5 million pairs of military boots sold each year in 60 countries, it's no surprise that Bates remains a major player in the world of military footwear. With a reputation like Bates', it's easy to see why so many uniformed men and women wear these military boots with pride.
