Love this boot...BUT!
Reviewer: Will | Clarksville, TN
First, let me say that from a fit and comfort perspective, this is absolutely the best boot I have ever owned. I simply love wearing them! However, with that being said, I am disappointing in the boots durability and/or craftsmanship. After two days of casual wear, the leather started to pull away from the the rubber sole near the toe. After a couple more days, I had two lace eyelets break away from the fabric. Since I have never unlaced these boots, I am unsure what would have cause the eyelets to break free. Were it not for these two concerns, I would give these boots 5-stars, hands down. I'll continue wearing them for as long as I can and hope my quality issues are just an isolated case.

I absolutely love this boot. When I was looking for a lightweight boot for patrol, I landed here. As a K9 officer, I have tried several boots over the past 8 years, and generally lean toward a waterproof boot that will take me anywhere. However, last year Bates introduced this fantastic line, and I had to try it out. I was impressed with its weight, stability, and comfort which allowed me to run in them without any adverse physical affects. The leather grain is impressively durable, showing very few signs of deterioration from constant exposure to water, mud, dirt, and whatever else the dogs can throw at it. The only complaint that I have, which gave it 3 stars instead of 5, is the longevity of the sole. After less than one year of use, the tread has worn completely smooth where the balls of my feet make contact. Understandably, these soles are lightweight and comfortable, and the trade off is in a softer composition, but I would have liked to have got more than one year of use out of a $90 boot, especially with how well the leather and other upper sole materials have stood up to this line of work.

It all started with men's dress shoes. In 1885 Bates Shoe Company was just a tiny dress footwear manufacturer. More than seven decades later, the company narrowed its focus to create a uniform dress shoe specifically for the U.S. Navy. From there, its uniform footwear line exploded onto the market. With 1.5 million pairs of military boots sold each year in 60 countries, it's no surprise that Bates remains a major player in the world of military footwear.
