Maxpedition MPB Multi-Purpose Bag XXL

It's easy to see why this Maxpedition Multi-Purpose Bag (MPB) costs a bit more that others I've looked at. It is manufactured with a heavier gauge fabric (1050-Denier water and abrasion resistant light-weight ballistic nylon fabric) that is treated with 3 coats of polyurethane and Dupont teflon fabric protector , and the seams are double-stitched with high-strength composite nylon thread and taped and finished. The straps for the handles wrap all the way around the bag and come up the opposite side as 1 piece rather than simply sewing on 2 separate straps for the handles, adding tremendous strength when the bag is carried with a heavy load. All stress points are also double stitched, Bartacked or "Box-and-X" stitched for additional strength and protection. The zippers and tracks are all heavy-duty reverse-faced YKK brand for long-wear and strength under heavy loads and stress. It also has a 2-inch strap with a long pad that does not slip or turn over. I have the khaki bag, probably the best non-descript color choice for tactical and theft prevention purposes. It comes with the CCW strap Velcro holster and the 3 magazine Velcro strap that both attach to the Velcro-enabled removable main compartment divider. The padding is high-quality closed foam material that absorbs most bangs and bruises pretty well. Good thing, since I have a MacBook Pro, IPad, Flip HD, cell phone, associated chargers and cables, Springfield .40 XD SubCompact, .40 ammunition, maps, X2 Tactical light/Laser, Surefire tactical light and extra batteries, Garmin Colorado GPS, regular AAA and AA batteries, Zagg portable charger, Celestron sports binoculars, specialty batteries, Ranger Buck Knife, Hoffritz Sailing Knife, Stubby Tool Set, 1 Mag Baton Light 4-D-Cell, Mini-Mag, Work Gloves, Pens, Pencils, Moleskine notebooks, matches, firesteel, Husky Metric and Standard Allen wrench sets, sewing kit, toiletry kit, Datrex Emergency food bars, water purification tablets, reflective blanket, emergency shelter tent, first aid kit, light sticks, military compass, military map grid tool, survival manual, solar charger, rechargeable batteries, and a portable emergency wind-up radio packed into this 1 bag! I'm still putting more items that I find out I forgot as I go along. Highly recommended bag. This one should last me a few years.

I own two of these bags. I use one as an everyday briefcase and travel bag. The other is a range bag or personal travel bag for my pistol. Maxpedition products are stain resistant Teflon treated ballistic nylon. Hence, they are more expensive than some competitors. They are "hard use gear". This bag has about 20 compartments. It will carry an HP laptop with a 14 inch diagonal screen. The main compartment has an adjustable divider with plenty of room. The divider has a hook and loop board (velcro) on one side for additional pouches. The long end pouch will hold two 16 ounce water bottles. The small pouches at the opposite end I use for a Blackberry and a cell phone. The side pouches unzip and completely fold down. This replaces a worn out Wenger Swiss Gear laptop briefcase. It has more functionality. Negatives: The fabric is stiff, since it's treated. It should loosen up with wear. I also recommend khaki, as the black one seems to show lint.

I absolutely love this bag! I sometimes provide a home-visit service (healthcare) for my more debilitated clients and I wanted something to hold and organize my equipment. This bag is perfect for the task. The bag itself is very well made and sturdy; I love the robust fabric, stitching and zippers. The large number of pockets and flaps keep frequently used items separate and easy to access. I can easily tote my 13' laptop and some small forms pens etc in addition to all my gadgets. The handles and shoulder strap are robust (like the rest of the bag) and very comfortable - there's a padded bit of fabric that wraps around the shoulder strap. In summary, this is a very well-made, and functional bag - and it looks good too! It's earned a place amidst a small number of purchases that I've been not just 100% satisfied with, but "wow"-ed as well. * Addendum I'm an amateur photographer and I'm thinking of getting another as a camera/gear bag for expeditions that require long lenses and extra gear (trekking, bird/nature photography etc.)Body, Long lens, wide, binoculars, IR scope, lights, flash, knife, raincoat ... The dual-zippered top is easy to get in and out of and the flashlight straps can hold a monopod or tripod ... either this one or a slightly smaller model - I've gotta check out the Maxpedition line!

I have greatly enjoyed this bag. It's not too big, but big enough to hold a laptop and several files as well as miscellaneous field equipment; and it's tough as nails. I purchased it out of frustration with laptop bags and briefcases that never did what I needed them to do, namely a single piece that could pull double-duty as a field bag and personal briefcase. The MPB has lived up to my expectations.

I have no worries about loading this bag right up with heavy ammo. It holds everything I need securely and safely (including pistols), and I am able to put a lock on the top opening for legal reasons should I need to. I have 4 maxpedition bags, and the thought put into functionality, material quality and durability is top notch on all their products. This bag would be great for any variety of uses beyond the range bag function I chose it for. You will not regret this purchase.
