Great boots overall!

Bought Abyss to replace well used Ohdin's. Abyss is better suited to rough terrain with heavy pack. Maked a great "out of the canoe, into the water, over the trail and back in the boat" shoe. Getting you feet wet is an essential part of good canoe tripping and the Abyss lets you do that and still have superior ankle support and footbed protection in a light weigh quick drying boot. Easier on and off than the Ohdin and a little better fit, but the Ohdin has a micro razor-siped sole and is better on smooth wet surfaces - read "landing craft and assault boats." Both great boots, well thought out, well executed, good value!

This boot meets all of my needs paddling in remote areas where landing and lanching can be a major challenge. The laces can be loosened to allow your foot to slide in easily so your booties or dry sox don't bind your toes. You can then tighten the laces to a comfortable fit and long hours of paddling. The soles grip nicely on both rough rocky beaches or in slippery conditions. The boots drain quickly for a smooth transition from water to the beach.
