    • Everyday shoe
      Reviewer: Corey

So I wear nothing but these types of shoes. I go back and forth between mid and low. I have had this shoe for over a year and love it. I hike in them, wear them to work, and even out to a movie. They are my everyday shoe. My wife hates that I always wear hiking shoes. But, I love them. I live in Utah so getting your feet wet in the winter is normal if you don’t have the right shoe. This shoe keeps my feet warm and dry in the winter months and dry and cool in the summer months. Be it when I go hiking or just normal daily wear. I do swap to snow boot in winter if I hike. But, this handles my day to day winter travels just fine. My only complaint is that the back part of the shoe, at the inside top, around the finger loop, has worn a hole on each shoe. Now this does not really cause any discomfort on my heel/tendon. It just seems that would last a little longer. But, I do use them every day and that’s the worst I have had with these shoes. So to me, they are worth the $130+.

I have worn these shoes every day for two years and have walked/hiked more than 7oo miles. They have been to Philmont, The Ozark trail and the A.T. I wear then mountain biking too. I have really high arches so I've added Super Feet insoles and wear Smart Wool socks most of the time. The soles are nearly worn out but they still feel really good. I haven't experienced any delaminating, just a little wear on the inside near the heel and I've replaced the laces twice, the last time I replaced the laces with 3mm Perlon cord. Looks funny but wears great. I'm most likely going to get another pair soon.

I wore these with several day hikes great shoe. I wore them in Big Bend NP on the South Rim 7 miles out 7 miles back wit a 70 lbs pack for three days of hiking around and not one blister or hot spot. Best hiker I have found in years better than my Vasques.

I really like this shoe. I just got my second pair after the first started wearing out on the inside after over 200 miles, including 50 miles in difficult NM mountianous terrain with full backpack. That's more than I would expect from a [$] shoe that is lightweight, water resistant, and that I backpacked with. They run a size small but if you know that you can order the right size. These shoes fit my feet particularly well. Find a shoe that fits and stick with it!

I have two pair of these shoes which I rotate wearing to work everyday. At first they were great, good fit, very comfy and kept my feet dry. After about 6 months I noticed my feet getting cold and damp and upon closer inspection I discovered the sole and the upper shoe are seperating on both pair. It seems like the stitching has rotted and the glue has failed. Soles and upper shoe still look brand new--what a waste.

I've had a pair of these for about two weeks now and have put them completely through the ringer. Last week I wore them for four days on the Appalachian Trail in the Smokies carrying a 40 Lb pack through foot high snow and knee deep water. Had I been wearing gaiters during the snow portions my feet would have stayed completely dry, even in slush. They are extremely comfortable and with minimal break-in before the trip they gave me no blisters or hot spots. In the cold they worked wonderfully with standard Smartwool hiking socks. I hope they last a long time because I love them! Thank you Merrell!

    • Great shoe... fits great

For what these shoes are meant for they are great! I've used them on 20 to 30+ day hikes and they have held up great...walked through creeks with my foot nearly submerged more than half way up the shoe and stayed completely dry. I've never had blisters and sometimes run trails with these shoes. Done a few overnight and 3-4 night trips in the Sierras in them and they've worked great! Considering the price and fact that they are waterproof and lightweight...I'd buy them again.

I purchased these shoes for a trip to wyoming and I wanted something that was lighweight, durable and waterproof. I couldn't be happier. Not only are they all of the above, but they are also extremely comfortable and WARM. If you are active and are ourdoors in all types of weather these shoes are for you.

    • Squeaky sole, not waterproof
      Reviewer: DBI

      2/21/2012

I bought these because my Merrell hiking boots are comfortable and VERY waterproof (even years later). Right away this shoe squeeked, which can be quite annoying. Also, I depend on my shoes to be waterproof for the wet Vancouver weather. They were waterproof for the first month or so but certainly not after that. Decent shoe if you don't care about water resiliency, but don't buy it if you're in the wet outdoors quite a bit.

      2/17/2012

No doubt, these are very comfortable shoes and typical for a Merrell product, but durability is an X-factor. Like others before me have commented, the black suede-like toe cap material started to delaminate where the sole meets the material. I am a Boy Scout leader and have used these on several hikes and found them to be a very comfortable shoe that provides decent support. They are somewhat waterproof...I have found a couple of spots where water leaked in. I like to wear them for working outdoors, which is usually in easy terrain and in suburban conditions. Overall, it's a very comfortable shoe, but I'm disappointed I didn't get more use out of them before they began to expose their flaws.
