I bought Sawtooth boots, size 13, over a year ago, based on reviews from the soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. My terrain here in Mexico is mountainous with beau coup rocks, but the rock here is a softer, travertine rock, not hard granite rock.
Mine did start to separate as others described. The secret is Super glue, here it is called Kola Loca, a drop in the right place and they are as good as new. Another year has passed, and no more separation.
Not only do these boots give me superior control on rock, but also on loose rock, which is normal here. I have not fallen once with these boots, which is common with regular shoes.
When we went back to the States, I ordered a second pair, but when I got there, it turns out I had done so last year and forgot it. So, I now have three pairs. I hope they do not deteriorate in storage like my running air shoes have done in the past.
I not only use them on the hills and mountains. But, I have learned they are more comfortable if I stand a lot. I am flat-footed, use Flatfoot inserts, and normally standing any length of time kills my feet. Standing with my Sawtooths is much more comfortable.
I am happy with them. I wish I had known about them years ago.
