Merrell Sawtooth boots are a comfortable shoe for work and hiking. Best for dry weather as they are not waterproof. I wear orthotics so the original insoles have to be removed and I use flat insoles from Spenco which my doctor recommended. I cannot find these shoes in stores so it is a pleasure that Tacticalgear.com supplies them. Thank you for your special discount offers and free shipping. I remain a loyal and satisfied customer.

After 10 years in the military and miles of marching, my feet have contracted arthritis. These boots make it go away. Nothing else does. I am on my feet for 10-12 hours each day and normally walk at least 5-6 miles daily. These boots are the best I have ever worn!! I will always buy these boots as long as they are made.

I enjoyed purchasing these Merrell Sawtooth boots from military.com. I was even given a discount. When these shoes were not available your live Customer Service was very helpful letting me know that the product was not discontinued but just out of stock. This is the second time this year I purchased this item. Thank you for your prompt shipping and not charging any sales tax. That sold me and I am a happy customer. Sincerely, Craig

    • not for long periods of wear

these boots are great, but wearing them for long periods of time wears out your feet fast. i need to find a better pair of insoles because the stock ones are garbage. these are not waterproof, but work if your in water for a short time, the leather absorbs water and take a little while to dry. they look great and are about as durable as they come and they will last forever. my best pair of boots yet. if you want a little more comfort and waterproof-ness id say go for the moab (they are also slightly warm).

    • I have three pairs, and am happy with them

I bought Sawtooth boots, size 13, over a year ago, based on reviews from the soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. My terrain here in Mexico is mountainous with beau coup rocks, but the rock here is a softer, travertine rock, not hard granite rock. Mine did start to separate as others described. The secret is Super glue, here it is called Kola Loca, a drop in the right place and they are as good as new. Another year has passed, and no more separation. Not only do these boots give me superior control on rock, but also on loose rock, which is normal here. I have not fallen once with these boots, which is common with regular shoes. When we went back to the States, I ordered a second pair, but when I got there, it turns out I had done so last year and forgot it. So, I now have three pairs. I hope they do not deteriorate in storage like my running air shoes have done in the past. I not only use them on the hills and mountains. But, I have learned they are more comfortable if I stand a lot. I am flat-footed, use Flatfoot inserts, and normally standing any length of time kills my feet. Standing with my Sawtooths is much more comfortable. I am happy with them. I wish I had known about them years ago.

    • Good, but not great.

First off I bought these to replace my Oakley SI Assaults. Went off of the reviews and research, but was slightly disappointed. The first pair I bought was an immediate disaster. The first time I went to cinch these up, the eyelet ripped clean out of the side. Now on to my second pair... Had to get a 10 this time (first was a 10.5, I guess I bought the last one.) Well the 10 fit larger than the 10.5. Other than that so far so good, I guess we'll see in the long run. But don't be fooled, these are in no way more comfortable than my Oakley's.

I am currently wearing these in Afghanistan. The fit, and feel great. One problem...The sole started separating from the the boot about 2 weeks of wearing them.

My dad bought me these boots from the States and had them shipped to me in Afghanistan. I have been wearing them most every day and they are incredible. I've had other Merrell products in the past and still do. But these are very comfortable and I barely notice that I am wearing them. They are able to withstand all the different kinds of walking and running I have to do in the Stan. I actually have two pair and these are lasting a really long time. Thanks Merrell.

    • Great boot
      Reviewer: GMKF

I wore a pair of these during my last deployment to Iraq & this was hands down the best boot I've ever worn. It held up to daily wear for over 10 months and I continued to wear them although not daily for the rest of the tour. The boots lasted as work shoes (w/insoles being replaced) for another year and a half. I just recieved a pair here in Afghanistan & have talked others into going with this model of Merrell boot as well. So far it has performed great & is far more comfortable than the issue footwear. They seem to hold up so far to the rugged terrain and although they're not gortex they respond well to getting wet. I did have a stitch split on the upper, but it's small and should have no bearing on the durability of the boot overall. Thanks Merrell for making an outstanding product.

Overall, this is a good boot, very comfortable. I wore these in Afghanistan for about four months and about halfway through, the rubber on both toes began to seperate from the boot. Not sure if it was a combination of the heat and and walking on the rough terrain or what. I love Merrell's though, and will continue to buy from them.

I bought these boots in 2006 and do not have one single complaint about them. Best boot I've ever owned. Lightweight, comfortable, durable, etc. I've climbed hills, mountains, been in and out of rivers, lakes, oceans, you name it. Love them, will buy another pair when these finally die.

    • Fantastic boots for training, deployment
      Reviewer: 2336

      2/24/2012
I have personally used Sawtooth's during numerous combat deployments and I must say that I am extremely impressed. Aside from the issue I had with my original pair where the glue securing the sole to the black rubber abrasion guard separated, I have no serious issues with these. And when I called customer service (while deployed) they IMMEDIATELY sent a new pair since they were less than 1-yr old. Find someone else that will go the extra mile for you like they did! Back stateside I have used Sawtooth's for everything from daily use as riding boots, to going on 6-8 mile walks with a 95+ lbs pack. That wasnt fun, but aside from a couple hot-spots at mile 7, my feet were intact and I could walk around 'normal' after each training/PT session. The only common problem I am having is the separation between the sole and the upper, as the replacement pair is doing the same. Hence the reason I can't give it 5 stars, but they would get a 4.5 rating. Additionally, the stiching that secures the black rubber abrasion guard to the leather is susceptable to being worn out which allows dirt and debris to enter the boot. But that wasn't until after about 7 months of constant, 24/7 abuse. Will I buy another pair/ recommend these to others...YES, deffinately! The comfort, durability and price can't be beat by military issued or "authorized" boots AND... as comfortable as OAKLEY's boots are, they simply cannot take the abuse from daily wear in Iraq; mine lasted me about 4-1/2 months. So its a no-brainer that they would crap out in a couple months in Afghanistan. Bottom line: I'd rather get 'lifed' out by some brainless, belt-fed SgtMaj or 1stSgt for "not wearing authorized boots", than have my feet get chewed up throughout a repetative combat deployments. That's why my Sawtooth's are getting packed out with me for an all expenses paid 'vacation' to Afghanistan.
