Big disappointment. A downturn for Oakley.
Reviewer: Suppo | Everett, WA
I bought the All Weather SI boots as a replacement for my much loved pair of Oakley Tactical Six. Unfortunately, they were a disappointed from the start. First, they have a strange fit. The footbed is an accurate fit, but the ankle area is very tight and uncomfortable. The area where the tongue connects to the boot creates pinch points that never went away even after it was broken in. The ankle area is so bulky that the boot can’t be laced very tightly, resulting in a wide gap between the side, not acceptable for uniform appearance. Aside from that, the design of the boot is such that the curve on the front side of the ankle causes the leather to buckle and jut out to the sides. The “Thermolite” insulation is hot and does not breathe well. It’s supposed to be waterproof, which I haven’t put to the test yet, but considering it keeps all of the sweat in and results in soaked socks, it stands to reason that it would keep out as well. Even the durability of the boots seem questionable, as after one week of wear there was already creasing evident in the leather.
Bottom line… after great past experiences with Oakley (Tactical 6 & LSA Terrain), the All Weather SI is a big, expensive, uncomfortable disappointment.
About Oakley 8" All Weather SI Boot WP
Walking over difficult terrain in both wet and dry environments is made easy with the directional lug geometry and the vulcanized rubber sole featured on the Oakley SI Assault. This sole also grips rough and smooth surfaces while a gusseted tongue keeps debris from entering. The boots are lightweight so they do not tire the wearer over long distances and they provide comfort with urethane shock absorption. They also feature a specialized, climate control liner that comes treated with an anti-microbial agent. The soft temper materials remove the need for a painful break-in period and make them both instantly comfortable and virtually silent to walk in.
Since the 1980s, Oakley has been providing U.S. troops with military gear and boots. Best known for its popular eyewear, it has spent millions on developing products for those in the armed forces. This partnership was formed to develop new technologies that improve the safety and performance of soldiers. Over time, Oakley's military line has transformed from a few models to a highly specialized division within the company. At its research facility in California, the company constantly works on new innovations. Some items are not available in retail stores, but luckily a number of military items can be purchased through public outlets.
