First off, I was extremely excited to get this watch, but after 4 years of ownership, I have to give it 1 star for 3 reasons.
First, and foremost, the water resistant leather band is junk and should never have made it onto the watch from being field tested. I had to replace the band every year at $35 a pop (plus shipping). Even with this issue, I still really liked the watch.
Secondly, the plastic bezel started to wear out after about 2 years. It sticks out and as a result, bumping into things can cause it to pop off. When this happens, there are two black plastic pieces - one on the left and one on the rights - these can slide off once the bezel has popped off. The first few times this happened, I caught it and found the pieces and was able to just put them back on. The bezel just snaps back into place. Eventually, this happened and I didn't realize it and I lost the bezel and one of the side pieces. This was not good, but if I could have found the parts cheaply and ordered them, I would still have given this watch 3 stars. That was not the case, however.
When I contacted Suunto, they would not send me these parts, indicating that I had to return my watch, at my expense, to their service center here in the U.S. Fine. I wasn't too happy about that, considering that these parts are something that just snap into place, but I needed them, so I jumped through their hurdles. What happened next really put the final nail in the coffin though. They got the watch and wanted to charge me $85 to clean it up and then put the parts on I needed. $85! That's plus the $15 it cost me to ship it to them (with insurance, of course), so a total of $100 for these three parts that probably cost them $0.79 to make.
Well, to say the least, I was disgusted in this extremely poor customer service from such an upscale active watch company, so I had them send me my watch back, took it off and put it in my end table drawer, where it shall sit until the end of time. I'm now wearing a much more dependable, and cheaper $35 Timex Ironman watch.
Suunto, how could you?
