    About Suunto

Suunto collage As a passionate outdoorsman, Tuomas Vohlonen only had one issue with orienteering—the inaccuracy surrounding the dry compass. Putting his engineer background to use, Vohlonen discovered a method to steadying the needle, which ensured more accurate readings. By the 1950s, Suunto was manufacturing compasses for land and sea use, but it wasn't for another 10 years that the first diving compass was produced. The company's really started to grow after the production of the SME dive computer. Immediately realizing the potential, it combined computers and compasses in its wristwatches. Today Suunto produces specialized instruments for training, diving, mountaineering, hiking, skiing, sailing and golfing.

    • 4 out of 5 The two digit display at the top that shows the day (or other info depending on what mode your in) had a problem with the second digit. The two horizontal lines never turn off. "TU" for Tuesday is displayed as "T8". It is a great watch with amazingly accurate features. The compass works great. The temp works well, but you have to take it off your wrist to get an accurate reading. The altimeter is a little off, but what I expect in a watch. I wish the light worked as well as Timex's Indiglo but it doesn't. It is a large watch and have heard comments about it, but it is still a lot lighter than any of my metal watches. Overall a great, fun watch.

    • 5 out of 5 I have owned one for about 1 year and I have no complaints. I love the band as well as all the features. I can wear it outdoors to play or inside without worrying about scratching it or tearing it up. Best watch I own by far, and I own a few watches in my collection.

    • 4 out of 5 This is a great all around watch that is extremely stylish and functional. The poly band is also better than leather. Suunto makes a great product. Unfortunately I won't keep it because the watch is simply too large for my uses -hiking, kayaking, running and as a casual everyday watch after work.

    • 4 out of 5 I feel that in my line of work (military) this watch has it all...well almost everything, if it had gps then I would have given it 5 out of 5 stars. The buttons are easy to use and the light is just enough to see what you need to, but not to much for the enemy too.

    • 4 out of 5 I am currently serving in Afghanistan for my second tour here. The XLander watch has been very good here, the crystal face is not scratched even after owning the watch for 6 years. I have replaced the band 2-3 times, because of the dust and sweat from the heat getting in the band and cutting it up. Batteries last 1+years depending on how much you use the light, but all in all a very good watch. This watch has lasted though combat dive school, special forces qualification course, 2 tours in Afghanistan and hours, weeks of abuse in demanding military training without any problems other than replacing the band and battery.

    • 3 out of 5 Love the watch. Hate the original watch band. I've broken three bands - once while putting a backpack on in Alaska and the watch fell into a stream. The bands would invariably tear at the pin that attaches it to the watch body. The most recent replacement is a rubber-fabric mixture that seems to hold up better than the cheap pseudo-leather originals. The watch itself is pretty hard on batteries - I've learned to keep a spare around all the time. I can never remember how to calibrate the compass. I always need to refer to the manual for that part, but beyond that one becomes accustomed to this many features with only four buttons. I know there are features on the watch I've never used, but after four years the watch and I are comfortable with each other. The manual compass rose (adjustable ring) has become loose and now falls off fairly regularly, but I have not yet lost any of the plastic bits that seem to fall off with it. The the pieces snap back into place (so far). I'll keep the watch for as long as it lasts, but will most likely get something a bit less heavy and feature laden for my next outdoor-activity sports watch.
