Comfortable but poor quality

I work law enforcement and had a pair of SWAT's for years and loved them. When it was time for a new pair, I bought this kind. I also had mine OUT OF THE BOX for less than a year when the sole began to peel away on both sides, on both boots. I can't even send them back as between moves (from one city to another) I had them in storage.
Rim of boot hurts legs.

I just got a pair of S.W.A.T. boots for hiking. my husband has had a pair for a while now and raves about the comfort. Mine are the most comfortable boots or shoes I have ever worn too. I have one problem. I have worn them two times for hiking and both time they hurt my legs where the rim of the boots rubs against them. I have tried thick socks, tight and loose lace up but nothing works to keep them from leaving my legs sore for days. What can I do to eliminate this problem.
Would not purchase again

I am currently a paramedic student in my state of Florida. I bought these in feb of this year (2012) they fit true to size, relatively comfortable and the price is comparable to other brands such as 5.11. However, the sole is starting to peel in the middle of the groove, they are not even a year old; also the fact that I am a STUDENT meaning I do not wear them 12 hours a day, nor am I running through rain, extreme temps, and In and out of ambulances yet...they are already falling apart. I cant imagine what they would be like if I were a medic already. I will NOT be purchasing another pair.
