Great shoe. Good option to your typical combat boots. Fit is perfect. I love they offer wide sizes.

Very excited to receive these after the holidays. Put them on right when they arrived and was impressed. But I didn't wear them for more than an hour or two. The shoes do appear to be constructed very well and are much nicer to move in than the boots I normally wear for my matches. The next day I decided I'd wear them for my monthly USPSA match, as this is why I wanted to buy these shoes in the first place, and something became clear. About half way through the day the back of my left achilles was bothering me. After returning home and an inspection of my shoe, I found that there was some extra material folded over and sewn into the shoe that was not present on my right shoe. Almost as if who ever had sewn the shoe together had just a little bit of extra material and didn't feel like cutting it off, so instead it was just folded and sewn. This is just a mildly uncomfortable but having it press into you achilles all day long it can start to get a little painful. My second gripe really is just nit picking. The tongue on my right shoe, after about five minutes just slips down the side of my foot. Now not a huge deal, but when I spend $70+ on a shoe I'd like to have things like that worked out. My goal is not to hurt the company but to highlight some issues in an effort to remedy them to provide better products for the consumer.

    • Drain holes headache

Altoona should have made these without the "gimmick" drain holes. less labor, less expensive shoes. I've used these in dry desert and the holes let dirt in, and it stays in. I've used these in sand beach ops and when sand gets in, it stays in and sure, water gets out but at that point i could care less about a wet boot because now i have to unlace and remove them to drain out the sand. I've used them in tropical wet season environments in urban settings and the holes let water in and out, and in again, and ...you get the picture. the only environment i use them in is urban, dry, and hot as the holes do vent heat out. during cold dry winter like it is now where i live, forget it! the holes let cold air in. good concept. untested. bad idea. if they made these without the holes they would be more practical and useful and i would by them in every color way. and I'm sure they would be cheaper to manufacture. I've sealed the holes in my shoes by glueing them shut.
