Merrell

The inventor of Merrell outdoor footwear, Randy J. Merrell, wanted to resolve foot pain and structural problems to improve performance and endurance in outdoor activities. This mission led him to create comfortable, supportive and rugged footwear for hiking, trail running, backpacking and day-to-day casual wear. Most hiking boots in the late 1970s, when Merrell was designing his first pair of hiking boots, were heavy and stiff to better protect the wearer in tough terrain. But the rigid material was uncomfortable and the heaviness could tire out the wearer more quickly. Merrell wanted to create a lightweight, flexible boot that was still protective and durable. In 1981, he succeeded with the release of boots Backpacker Magazine deemed “the most comfortable and functional boots in North America.” Merrell continues to craft outdoor footwear with phenomenal support and protection without weighing you down.
