How to Ranger Roll Your OCP Uniform

There are many benefits to ranger rolling your OCP uniform. This helpful hack is an easy, secure, convenient way to store and transport your uniform. Ranger rolling not only saves space and protects your uniform from dirt and debris, it also helps maintain a neat, professional appearance by keeping your uniform wrinkle-free. We think this is something everyone should know, that's why we created this useful step-by-step guide that walks you through how to ranger roll each component of your military uniform. Before getting started, be sure to remove all morale patches from your uniform. It's also important to note that all folds should be neat, crisp and all wrinkles should be smoothed out prior to folding. In addition to that, all zippers and buttons should be securely fastened and all garments should be tightly folded on a flat, hard surface.

Rolling T-Shirts

Rolling T-Shirts
  • Take the bottom hem of the shirt and flip about four inches of it inside out to form a cuff.
  • Next, leading with one of the sleeves, fold the shirt vertically until you reach the shoulder.
  • Align the tip of the sleeve with the shoulder hem.
  • Perform the same vertical fold in the opposite direction, lining up the sleeve with the torso.
  • Fold the remainder of the sleeve inward.
  • Next, rotate the shirt so that the collar is facing you. Tightly roll the shirt upwards for the entire length of the shirt.
  • Once you reach the bottom, you'll notice a pouch along the backside of the shirt. Wrap that pouch around your rolled up shirt, locking the roll into place.
  • Pull any remaining fabric on the side down to further secure the roll.

Rolling Military Coats

Rolling Military Coats
  • This process is very similar to the above process, but is a bit more challenging due to the thickness of the fabric. Take the bottom hem and flip it inside out about four inches to form a cuff.
  • Then, take the long sleeves and fold them inward towards the collar. This will mimic the shape of a short sleeve t-shirt.
  • Align the tip of the folded sleeve with the shoulder hem.
  • Perform the same vertical fold in the opposite direction, lining up the folded sleeve with the torso.
  • Fold the remainder of the sleeve inward.
  • Next, rotate the coat so that the collar is facing you. Tightly roll the coat upwards for the entire length of the coat.
  • Once you reach the bottom, you'll notice a pouch along the backside of the coat. Wrap that pouch around your rolled up shirt, locking the roll into place.
  • Pull any remaining fabric on the side down to further secure the roll.

Rolling Military Pants

Rolling Military Pants
  • Fold the pants vertically in half, stacking the pant legs on each other.
  • Next, lift the upper pant leg and fold it into a 90-degree angle.
  • Then take the waist of the pant and very tightly roll it down the entire length of the other pant leg.
  • While tightly holding onto the rolled half of the pant, take the remaining leg and fold it inside out, completely tucking it over the rolled portion of the pant.

Once your military pants are rolled, use the spare space in the pant leg to store your rolled t-shirt and OCP coat. Typically, OCP pants have drawstrings incorporated into the bottom of each pant leg. Once your rolled shirt and coat are stored inside of the make-shift pack, use the drawstrings to secure the items. This method can be time-consuming in the beginning, but once you have it perfected, we promise there's no going back.
